National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse

Paul has been chief executive of the NTA since its creation in 2001. Paul advises ministers and senior officials in the Department of Health and Home Office about all issues to do with the provision of drug treatment in England. He is the lead advisor to the NTA Board which is responsible for shaping the NTA’s strategic direction and leads the Senior Management Team in implementing the agency’s work programme. Prior to joining the NTA Paul worked for the Probation Service for over 20 years.

Rosanna joined the NTA in 2003 as director of regional management with responsibility for the nine NTA regional teams. Since then Rosanna’s role has expanded and now, as director of delivery, she has responsibility for all the NTA’s delivery activity. Prior to work at the NTA Rosanna worked at director level with two major national provider organisations in the voluntary sector. She also has extensive experience as an elected member of both district and county councils. In 2007, Rosanna was appointed a Board member of the Youth Justice Board

Jon joined the NTA in 2008 from the Department of Health, where he was Head of News in charge of one of the busiest press offices in Whitehall. His role is to advise the Board and Chief Executive on communications strategy, and lead a team that coordinates policy information for the NTA as well as providing professional expertise in media handling, external relations, publications and internal communications.

Stephen joined NTA as director of corporate services in 2004, and is responsible for Finance, HR, NDTMS development and IT, Corporate Governance and Administration. Prior to joining the NTA, Stephen has worked as the Head of Finance and Administrative Services as well as Board Secretary for the Probation Service in London. He has also worked in Local Government.

Before joining the NTA as a deputy regional manager in Yorkshire and the Humber in 2003, Mark worked in the substance misuse and HIV/sexual health field for several years as a practitioner and service manager. He ran services in West London spanning a range of treatments, including structured counselling, residential rehabilitation, day services, prescribing services and needle exchange. He then became the drug treatment lead for the Home Office Drugs Prevention Advisory Service in Yorkshire and the Humber. Mark is also a carer to someone now in 12-step mutual aid recovery. Mark has been the NTA head of delivery for the North since late 2009, moving on from positions as NTA regional manager in the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Lynn Bransby is the head of delivery (south) for the NTA. She has responsibility for four of the nine NTA regions and is the national lead for families and young people. Prior to taking up this role, Lynn was regional manager in the NTA London office, a post she held from 2001 to 2009. Lynn’s background is in criminal justice. She worked for London probation services for twenty years, developing particular interests in drug misusing offenders, public protection and the resettlement of offenders.

Nino graduated from Queen Mary College in 1981 with a degree in Law and joined the Inner London Probation Service as an ancillary probation officer. After completing his diploma in social work, he worked as a probation officer in South London, including a secondment in Brixton Prison as a drug and alcohol specialist. In 1994 he became a senior probation officer and managed a field probation team in East London, before taking up a post as the development manager for substance misuse for the Inner London Probation Service. In 1999 he joined the Drug Prevention Advisory Service as a regional adviser for the London team. He moved to the Home Office as the project manager for the drug testing pilot programme. He took up his current post as criminal justice and reintegration manager for the National Treatment Agency in July 2002.

Pete joined the NTA in 2008 as the standards & inspections national programme lead, leading the joint NTA & Healthcare Commission drug treatment reviews. He was appointed as the NTA skills and development manager in December 2009. Pete started working in the substance misuse field as a practitioner in 1992 and has worked in a variety of treatment settings. He managed community based drug treatment services from 1997 until 2004, running a range of contracts including: brief intervention services; abstinence based group work programmes; police custody referral services; a residential rehabilitation service; a young people's service; and harm reduction services. From 2004 to 2007, he worked as a freelance consultant delivering a range of substance misuse service and treatment system reviews and training programmes.

Christopher is one of the clinicians within the skills and development team. Alongside his NTA role he is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with a drug & alcohol treatment service in East London. Christopher has worked as a clinical psychologist in drug and alcohol treatment services since 2001, within that time developing a specialist interest in treatment for service users with co-existing mental health problems. Christopher is an accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, Trainer and Supervisor and has a strong interest in the wide range of psychological interventions essential within substance use misuse treatment. Christopher was previously Deputy Clinical Director with one of the Doctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology and has a clinical research and publications background.

Michael is a member of the skills team. He is a consultant psychiatrist specialising in addictions working as a clinician at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. He has worked in the addictions field since 1998, where he has held the post of Clinical Lead for Lambeth Addictions since 2003. He has more recently taken on the role of lead clinician for IDTS in HMP Brixton.

Luke is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist seconded from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to work in the skills and development team. He has worked as a psychologist in the substance misuse treatment sector since 1993 and is currently a senior clinician and manager in Lambeth. As well as working with clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health problems he is involved in training and supervising staff in the use of psychosocial interventions. He is involved with a number of research projects investigating the implementation of evidence based psychological interventions in real-life treatment settings.
