Equality and Diversity

The NTA is committed to promoting equality and diversity in the organisation and across the substance misuse field. Historically, the majority of treatment services across England evolved to meet the needs of white, male, urban heroin misusers.

While this still reflects the majority of those in treatment in most areas of the country, the drug treatment population is increasingly diverse. The NTA has always recognised that every individual has an equal legal and moral right to non-discriminatory, high quality, drug treatment services. In order to meet this aspiration, we are committed to ensuring that local substance misuse treatment systems provide accessible and appropriate drug treatment for the needs of local populations – including those who do not traditionally come forward for drug treatment.

As an organisation, we constantly re-examine our corporate aims, targets and work plans to ensure that the needs of historically marginalised groups are considered.

The NTA Equality Analysis audit tool

The NTA has produced an audit tool that drug treatment services may find useful. This quick check-list is meant to help agencies assess their current compliance with the Equality Act 2010, and should be used to support locally-owned processes in conjunction with other pieces of relevant guidance.
