UPDATE: 01/07/2010 - Interim guidance on safeguarding arrangements during the Scheme review period issued
The Government, in its document "The Coalition: our programme for government" published in May, announced its intention to undertake a review of the scope of the Vetting and Barring Scheme. The introduction of individual registration has been suspended to allow the review to take place.
Whilst final requirements on individuals to register with the Scheme will depend on the outcome of the review, it is important to note that the requirements introduced by the first phase of the Vetting and Barring Scheme in October 2009 will remain in place. These requirements are outlined in this document.
15/06/2010 - Vetting and Barring Scheme registration halted
Registration with the vetting and barring scheme has been halted to allow the government to review it and remodel it back to proportionate, common sense levels, it was announced today.
The Home Secretary says that a review of the scheme for people who have frequent contact with children or vulnerable adults will ensure a measured approach to protecting vulnerable people.
