The Eastern region is home to around 5.5 million people. Population density is highest in Luton which is one of the highest outside London.
The East of England provides first class quality of life. Compared with other regions, most people enjoy longer and healthier lives, some of the lowest crime levels in the UK, and an employment rate that is among the highest in the UK.
However, there are pockets of significant deprivation in areas with an otherwise high quality of life and there are black, minority ethnic and migrant communities for whom the indicators are far less benign. There is a strong relationship between deprivation and people’s health, with people living in areas characterised by the highest rates of deprivation experiencing poor health and lower life expectancy.
Eastern Region Recovery Month - June 2012
The NTA is delighted to be promoting recovery month for the third year running across the east of England.
Throughout June we are once again encouraging treatment centres, community groups and prisons across the region to throw open their doors for to celebrate recovery, so that local communities can see firsthand the benefits and opportunities that freedom from addiction can bring.
One of the key aims of recovery Month is to build on the network of 'recovery champions', who champion a lifestyle free from dependence and help engage the wider community to understand enough about addiction to act.
East of England interim regional manager, Bernie Casey said: "2012 is a year of transformative change for the health and social care field, with responsibility for addiction services transferring to local authorities under the leadership of directors of public health. We need to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the vital role that treating addiction plays in making the lives of individuals, families, and wider communities happier, healthier, safer, and more prosperous. I can't think of a better way to engage new audiences than showcasing local recovery initiatives and the benefits they bring to whole communities through June's recovery month! '
So that we can promote and support as many of your local events as possible please let us know what you plan to do and when you are doing it, by completing this form.
We will also be holding an awards ceremony at the NTA east of England Recovery forum in September to honour people's favourite events, as well as individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to recovery locally.
